Measuring

  • Consider the time from order placement to measuring. We normally plan this about 4-6 weeks in advance.
  • Measuring can be done when the rough opening dimensions are final. Also, any old frame (except for an overlay door) must be removed, and the rough opening must be fully finished. This means that the walls and ceilings are finished and the living floor (tile, wood, PVC, etc.) must be laid.
  • No further plastering or sanding may be done after measuring.
  • If we are on-site and cannot measure, we are unfortunately obliged to charge the measuring costs.
  • Someone who is familiar with the situation must always be present.
  • Any cancellation must be reported 7 working days in advance, otherwise, we are unfortunately obliged to charge the measuring costs.
  • If cancellation occurs after measuring, we will charge cancellation costs of €249 (unless otherwise agreed).

Installation

There are several important points to consider around the installation. If the installation fails due to one of the following situations, we unfortunately cannot take responsibility and the warranty will also be voided.

  • During installation, you are responsible for covering the floor. If it is not covered, we are not responsible for any damage to the floor.
  • Within a radius of 5 meters around the installation location and along the walkway, no breakable/valuable items such as vases and paintings should be present.
  • Children should not play in the areas where we need to work. (This can, of course, be discussed with the installers).
  • When installing doors/facades, the client must ensure that there are no baseboards present at the location where the doors/facades are to be mounted on the walls or ceiling. The situation may be different if expressly agreed otherwise. If any existing baseboards need to be removed during installation, Aluwdoors cannot be held liable for any resulting damage. We will cut the baseboard, so the wall will need to be neatly finished afterwards. This is not something Aluwdoors does.
  • We cannot saw into stone baseboards; these must be removed by a third party, such as a tiler.
  • If drilling in floors/walls/columns is not allowed, this must be reported in advance.
  • Any (glass) damage must be reported within 48 hours, otherwise, we cannot take responsibility.
  • If you want the (hinge) door mounted on the edge of a wall or similar, this is often possible. However, we often cannot prevent a piece of plaster or wall from breaking off.
  • All panels can have a size/straightness tolerance of 4 mm.
  • Any caulking and painting work, as well as repairing minor damages to plasterwork of the wall or ceiling during installation (in exceptional cases), is not carried out by us.
  • The seams in case of misalignment are not caulked by Aluwdoors.
  • Aluwdoors also does not provide caulking for shower walls.
  • For shower walls and outdoor living areas, it is mandatory to have them caulked by a third party. If damage to the doors or walls occurs because they are not caulked, the warranty is void. You can request additional information about purchasing a shower wall or outdoor living area via sales@aluwdoors.com.
  • Our installers leave the area broom clean. Cleaning the walls we installed (window cleaning) is not part of our services.
  • During installation, we must have access to electricity, light, and sanitary facilities.
  • The space in which we have to work must be wind- and waterproof. The space must also be lit as mentioned above. If this is not possible, it must be reported in advance.
  • Any vertical transport (moving lift or crane) is not included in the quotation unless otherwise agreed.
  • If we are on-site and cannot install, we are unfortunately obliged to charge the installation costs.
  • Any cancellation must be reported 7 working days in advance, otherwise, we are unfortunately obliged to charge the installation costs.

Technical Details

Fixed Wall

  • The ceiling must be firmly screwable, which can be concrete, stone, or wood.
  • For gypsum boards, we advise applying at least two layers of 18 mm plywood above the gypsum boards; otherwise, we cannot mount the walls.
  • For steel beams, we recommend that they be covered with two layers of 18 mm plywood.
  • For a suspended ceiling, a grid system must be installed. Behind this grid system, 4 cm of wood must be applied.
  • We must be able to drill at least 4 cm into the ceiling, and no pipes should run within this distance.
  • The floor must also be solid and not prone to sinking.
  • The walls and ceilings must be finished as if no fixed wall will be installed.
  • All panels can have a size/straightness tolerance of 4 mm.

Pivot Door

  • The ceiling must be firmly screwable, which can be concrete, stone, or wood.
  • For gypsum boards, we advise applying at least two layers of 18 mm plywood above the gypsum boards; otherwise, we cannot mount the doors.
In addition, we must be able to drill at least 10 mm into the floor. Normally, underfloor heating is not a problem because we only need to drill 10 mm deep. The living floor (tile or glued floor) is also included in this measurement.
  • If underfloor heating is yet to be milled or poured, an area of 25 x 25 cm around the hinge point must be kept free of pipes in the floor; no other pipes should be present either.
  • If the hinge point of the door is relocated, a larger area must be kept free. Please contact us for more information.
  • As soon as there is a side light, a space of 25 x 25 cm must be kept free from the side light. It's really about the hinge point. If in doubt, please call +31 (0)85 130 19 65.
  • The walls and ceilings should be as straight and level as possible. This way, you will achieve the best final result and minimal gaps.
  • The walls and ceilings must be finished as if no door will be installed.
  • Also, ensure that there are no smoke detectors, lights, or air vents in the swing direction of the door. Furthermore, there should be no switches or outlets at the door's location.
  • For baseboards, we will need to cut a section out. To avoid this, you can use no baseboard or a flat, adhesive baseboard. This is also further explained in the Installation section. The cut sides must be finished by a painter, which is not something we do. We are not responsible for the cracking of stone baseboards due to poor adhesion, the same applies to floor tiles.
  • All panels can have a size/straightness tolerance of 4 mm.

Sliding Door

  • If you want a sliding door to slide into the wall, please contact us at sales@aluwdoors.com.
  • The ceiling must be firmly screwable, which can be concrete, stone, or wood.
  • For drywall, we recommend applying at least two layers of 18 mm plywood above the drywall; otherwise, we cannot install the doors.
  • For steel beams, we advise covering them with two layers of 18 mm plywood.
  • With a drop ceiling, a grid system must be installed. Behind this grid, 4 cm of wood should be added.
  • We must be able to drill at least 4 cm into the ceiling, and within this distance, there should be no pipes.
  • The floor must also be sturdy.
  • The walls and ceilings should be as straight and level as possible. This ensures the best end result and minimal gaps.
  • The walls and ceilings should be finished as if no door will be installed.
  • Ensure that there are no smoke detectors, lights, or air vents in the sliding direction of the door.
  • Also, there should be no electrical outlets or switches at the door's location.
  • For skirting boards, we must cut a piece out. To avoid this, you can use no skirting board or a flat skirting board (flat on the floor). This is further explained under the heading "Installation." The cut sides should be finished by a painter, which is not a service we provide. For stone skirting boards, we are not responsible for cracking due to poor adhesive, the same applies to floor tiles.
  • All panels can have a size/straightness tolerance of 4 mm.

Hinged Door

For a double hinged door, we need to drill 10 mm into the floor for the side bolt in the passive door. For a single hinged door, it doesn't matter. Normally, underfloor heating is not a problem since we only need to drill 10 mm deep. This includes the top layer of the floor (tile or glued floor).
  • If you are planning to install underfloor heating and desire a double hinged door, please contact us to take this into account.
  • The walls and ceilings should be as straight and level as possible. This ensures the best end result and minimal gaps.
  • The walls and ceilings should be finished as if no door will be installed.
  • Ensure that there are no smoke detectors, lights, or air vents in the door's swing direction. Also, there should be no electrical outlets or switches at the door's location.
  • With the magnetic closure, it's always possible for the door to pop open due to air pressure differences.

Rebate Door

  • We only install doors in existing rebate frames.
  • We do not prepare hinge cuts in the frame; these must already be present.
  • If a magnetic closure is chosen, the frame must be steel. You will also hear a closing sound from the magnets grabbing the frame.
  • If a cylinder or toilet lock is chosen, it should be known that we always use a PC72 lock. Check if your old door and frame have this, otherwise a lock is not possible.
  • The hinges we install will be either black (satin) or silver-colored.
  • The rebate should be 15mm, then the door overlaps nicely. More is also possible, but then the profiles will be less or not visible from the side where the door does not swing towards.
  • All panels can have a size/straightness tolerance of 4 mm.
  • We do not remove toplights; you may do this yourself. Note that the upper lintel must be at least 5 cm, and removing the middle post might create holes in the frame, which we do not deal with. Make sure you don't throw away the upper part of the frame!
