Exactly how far does a pivot door rotate?
When you think of modern doors, you quickly end up with pivot doors. They stand out for their smooth movement and modern design. Many people wonder: how far does such a door actually turn?
A pivot door does not turn on ordinary hinges, but on pivots. These are pivots at the top and bottom of the door. As a result, a pivot door opens to two sides. This makes for a generous passage and smooth movement. Ideal for those who want to combine space, style and functionality in one design.

The pivot door mechanism
A pivot door is not the same as a traditional hinged door. Instead of hinges attached to the side of the frame, a pivot door has hinges that are placed at the top and bottom of the door. These, in turn, are fixed into the ceiling and floor. This creates a unique pivoting movement. The door can pivot both inwards and outwards.
Standard dimensions of a pivot door
The width of our pivot doors ranges from about 60 to 150 centimetres. We also make customised side panels to match your doors so that we can offer ultimate customisation. Of course, we always make doors and walls that exactly meet your specific needs.
With double pivot doors, we determine the total width together with you based on the room they will be placed in. The width is usually between 120 and 300 centimetres. The doors always fit together nicely. This way, the door matches the rest of your interior.
How far does a pivot door turn?
The exact pivoting range of an aluminium pivot door depends on the design. A pivot door usually swivels up to about 150 degrees to either side. This provides a wide passage without the door hitting the wall. This allows you to use your space in a flexible way and makes it extra stylish. The pivot door is both functional and beautiful.
At what point does the pivot point of the pivot door turn?
The maximum width for our pivot doors is 150 centimetres. The hinge point is 10 centimetres from the outside of the profile. The pivot point can of course be moved to, for example, 20 centimetres, 30 centimetres or possibly 40 centimetres. Here too, we provide optimum customisation.
For slightly wider doors, the hinge point is often moved to 20 or 30 centimetres. On narrow doors, we often leave the hinge point at 10 centimetres. Are you still unsure or do you have any questions about this? Feel free to contact us.

Can a pivot door rotate out of its hinge?
A pivot door does not simply rotate off its hinge. The system is built so that the door is firmly fixed between the floor and the ceiling. A pivot door does not have ordinary hinges, but features a shaft with a spring mechanism. That shaft rotates in a solid hinge plate. This keeps the door in place and the spring mechanism ensures that it remains perfectly balanced.
Even if you open or close the door with a bit more force, it stays neatly in place. The movement is automatically slowed down by the hinge, with a soft-close system. As a result, the door never spins too far and does not turn loose.
When better to choose a hinged door?
A pivot door has a modern look and turns smoothly, but it is not the best choice in every situation. Because the pivot mechanism is fixed into the floor and ceiling, mounting requires a little more space than with a regular hinged door. A pivot door also does not completely seal out noise and heat. A hinged door insulates slightly better.
Looking for a door that seals well against noise and heat? Then choose a hinged door. This door matches your interior nicely, with a classic hinge system.
