Maintenance of aluminium profiles

Are you planning to give the aluminium parts of your door a thorough clean? Then get some mild cleaning products. This will keep the material looking well-finished. Avoid aggressive cleaners, scouring pads and solvents to prevent scratches or discolouration. 

Instead, use a soft cloth or sponge with warm water. Finally, rinse the surface with clean water and dry it thoroughly to prevent water spots.

First aid for stains or limescale

Are there any fingerprints or slight marks on the profile? Use a soft, lint-free cloth and a mild, pH-neutral cleaning agent in lukewarm water to remove the marks. You can use green soap or a drop of washing-up liquid, but do not use too much. That can leave a greasy film.

Here too, avoid aggressive products such as scouring agents or chemical solvents. It is also best not to use all-purpose cleaner. These can sometimes irreparably damage the powder coating or cause dull patches. After cleaning, always dry the profile thoroughly with a clean, dry cloth to prevent watermarks.

Clean and protect glass

For a streak-free result when cleaning glass, it is important to use the right material. A soft cloth, for example, is ideal for cleaning the glass. Another option is to use a microfiber cloth combined with warm water and a little bit of glass cleaner. Be careful not to let too much glass cleaner get onto the aluminium profiles, as they do not react well to it. It is best to leave abrasive materials in the cupboard, as these cause scratches or a dull haze. 

Avoid streaks on the glass by drying it thoroughly after cleaning. Fortunately, smudges and streaks are easy to avoid by cleaning the glass regularly. Do this extra often in rooms where the doors or aluminium walls come into contact with water, such as kitchens. Has limescale formed anyway? Then clean the glass with a mild glass cleaner or limescale remover.

Maintain handles and fittings

A lovely door that operates smoothly is a real asset to your home. You can achieve this by also cleaning the handles and latches regularly. 

Use a mild cleaning product and a slightly damp cloth to clean metal handles. Choose a soft sponge instead of a scouring pad, as that can cause scratches or discoloration. Check all parts of the door regularly, such as latches and moving parts. That way, you will enjoy it for years to come without any problems and with great pleasure.

Protection of finishes

A well-finished door that lasts a long time doesn’t just happen. You do need to put in a bit of effort to extend the door’s lifespan. For example, clean the paintwork on your aluminium door regularly with a mild, non-abrasive soap. This will keep the colour of your door looking good for a long time.
