Measuring and fitting a pivot hinge yourself
Make your own choice when buying our doors, will you measure and/or assemble the door yourself, or let our experts do it? With a pivot hinge, accurate measurement is crucial. Determine the best position of the hinge, check the flatness of the floor and ceiling. Therefore, let us do the measuring and fitting.

When measuring and fitting yourself is possible
The self-measurement and fitting is easy to do with a standard pivot door in a room that is easily accessible. The floor and ceiling should be level and 3 to 4 centimetres should be drilled into the ceiling and one centimetre into the floor. There should be a pipe-free drilling area. Let our expert do the measuring if you have milled-in or electric underfloor heating. Also with sloping or lowered ceilings/walls, large or double doors, little working space or doubts about the drilling location, it is important to leave the measuring and fitting to experts. This way, you can be sure that the pivot hinge rotates freely and closes tightly.
Required tools and preparation
You don't need much to properly measure a pivot hinge: a tape measure for measuring, a cross-line laser and a spirit level for setting lines. You will also need a screwdriver and drill to fix the hinge. Finally, you will need a mark-off pencil to mark out measurements. This is how to mount the pivot hinges neatly in place.

Measuring yourself: step by step
If you decide to do the measuring yourself, it is important to follow our step-by-step plan. We start by making a sketch of the opening and its surroundings (wall, direction of rotation, hinge position). Of course, we help you with this.
Check carefully that there are no obstacles at the mounting location or in the sliding or turning direction of the door. Then measure the width and height at at least three points. Use a spirit level or cross-line laser to check whether the floor and ceiling are at an angle.
Also check that the recess meets the conditions so that it can be fitted securely and correctly. This includes a load-bearing and stable surface for mounting rails or hinges, walls that are perpendicular and flat without protruding skirting boards or pipes, and sufficient clearance above and to the side of the opening to allow the door to be correctly positioned and adjusted.
Self-assembly: the general steps
Mounting a pivot door involves the following steps:
- The pivot door is fixed at 4 points in the ground and at 3 points in the ceiling. These must first be marked out and pre-drilled according to our instructions.
- After these have been prepared, the floor pot can be fixed into the floor. This is the hinge that ensures the door closes neatly.
- After this, the pivot door is set into the mounted floor pot.
- Once the door is upright, the upper spigot (the hinge in the ceiling) of the pivot door can also be fixed in the ceiling.
- This is followed by adjusting the pivot door so that it closes at the correct position and desired speed.
